Cairngorm Attracts the UK's Top Teams

Bentley Saopbox RacerBentley's Soapbox Racers to take on the UK's Best at Cairngorm

Entries for Cairngorm Soapbox Extreme 2010 are now closed, with a capacity 32 teams taking part. The running order reads like a "Who's Who" of the UK gravity racing scene and includes the winners of all the major UK soapbox races over the last 12 months. C12 (Mansel Lacy and Richards Castle), Centa Bavaria (Belchford and Border Bogies), Crockle (Cadwell Park) and Bush Racing (Catterline) will all be there, plus many other seasoned competitors from across the country and several newcomers keen to make a name for themselves, so it promises to be a fiercly fought competition between the very best teams in the country.

Bentley Motors are entering two carties, including one from the legendary Goodwood FoS soapbox races, and The Cheats will be there with their currently undefeated Gravity Sidecar. Rollover Roy will be back for more as well. His cartie has been substantially redesigned after his accident last year, but his enthusiasm is undiminished.

As if that wasn't enough, the first ever SCA Championship reaches its climax at CSE2010, with Crockle, Alford and Nae Cost locked in a fierce competition with only one point separating them at the top of the table.

Let's Get Ready to Trundle!

Maniac 1 at Catterline Cartie ChallengeThe second round of the SCA Championship will take place this weekend at the pictureque clif top village of Catterline, on the North East coast of Scotland. Now in it's 6th year, the Catterline Cartie Challenge has been entertaining competitors and spectators alike as the home made carties fly down the steep road from the Creel Inn to the harbour. At ~300m in length, it is a relatively short course but its combination of gravel and tarmac surfaces and tight turns makes it a track that favours nimble carties and courageous drivers.

Alford Gravity Racers will be hoping to use this to gain some ground on Crockle and level or draw ahead on championship points. but none of the SCA Cartie teams have competed at Catterline before and their lack of local experience may be crucial. Despite several visitors from far and wide, Catterline has always been won by a local team.

Border Bogies - Unofficial Results

Gravity racers from near and far converged on the village of Denholm, near Hawick last weekend for the first race of the year - the 2010 Border Bogie Challenge - and they were not disappointed. A very competitive field and glorious sunshine meant the spectators were treated to some of the best in gravity racing, with the senior soapbox trophy being decided by just 1 second over three runs.
